The company decided to initiate a planned shutdown of its operations, within the framework of a voluntary procedure. This project was presented today to the staff representatives and to the employees.
For several years now, MATINES has been facing major economic difficulties. The company has thus announced a project to voluntarily cease all of its egg packaging and marketing activities intended for mass distribution and collective catering.
Despite all the restructuring previously undertaken, the investments made to improve its operational competitiveness, and the exemplary commitment of all its employees, the company has been unable to turn around its operational and financial situation. The intensive search for a willing buyer that began in April 2021, failed to find a candidate capable of ensuring the continuity of the company's activities and jobs.
Fully mindful of its responsibilities towards its employees, clients, and suppliers, particularly livestock farmers, the company is preparing for a planned shutdown of its activities. This will be done within the framework of an amicable approach, presented today to the staff representatives and to the employees.
Submission of this project implies the opening of discussions with employee representatives and the launch of an information-consultation procedure, at the end of which the company's activities could be effectively terminated in the fall of 2022 through the sale or closure of its facilities.
MATINES has already obtained a commitment to take over its packaging center and staff in the town of Naizin in Morbihan. Supported by the SANDERS Company, this project involves the development of an egg packaging service activity by a new company on behalf of several undertakings marketing eggs in supermarkets.
For the other locations and their employees*, for which no successful takeover projects currently exist, MATINES intends to continue its efforts to seek buyers in order to limit as much as possible the social consequences of its planned shutdown.
While implementing this project could lead to the elimination of 114 positions, each employee concerned would be assured of receiving personalized guidance, support, and advice. In particular, the employee would receive offers of redeployment or mobility within the Group or with outside companies.
At the same time, as part of its commitment to the agricultural world and livestock farmers, MATINES is committed to doing everything in its power to identify alternative outlets for its partner livestock farmers. These partners have faithfully supplied MATINES with eggs for many years enabling the company to offer quality eggs to consumers day after day.
*Founded in 1985, MATINES, a specialist in the packaging and marketing of eggs in the shell, employs 172 permanent staff. These employees work in three packaging centers located in Brugnens (Gers - 34 employees), Chalamont (Ain - 50 employees), and Naizin (Morbihan - 48 employees). A storage site is located in Trémorel (Côtes-d'Armor - 6 employees). Two administrative offices are located in Bruz (Ille-et-Vilaine - 24 employees) and Saint-Gérand (Morbihan - 10 employees).
